When you have shoulder pain, it affects every area of your life. You might find yourself struggling to engage in everyday activities. Don’t let it get to this point. Contact Natural Care Chiropractic in Lindenhurst, IL and enlist the help of Drs. Mark Freund and Nicole Gopaul. You’re likely experiencing a condition known as “frozen shoulder.” It’s characterized by constant stiffness and pain in the shoulder for upwards of two years. If left untreated, frozen shoulder affects your sleep, leads to depression, and creates widespread pain problems.
Frozen shoulder starts with inflammation in the shoulder’s joint capsule. This is where the joint connects the bones with the ligaments. The inflammation causes the ligaments to seize up, restricting your range-of-motion. Frozen shoulder develops in three distinct stages:
-Painful, freezing stage: you notice a gradually growing pain in the shoulder, with your range-of-motion declining.
-Adhesive, frozen stage: the pain starts to dwindle. Your range-of-motion increases, yet the shoulder is stiffer.
-Recovery, or thawing stage: the range-of-motion continues to improve.
There is no definitive cause of frozen shoulder. It's more common in adults over the age of 40, especially in women. Pre-existing shoulder conditions also put you at risk.
Your Lindenhurst chiropractors diagnose you after a physical examination and a few questions. They might ask you to perform a few physical movements to better assess the severity. Certain imaging tests are performed. Make sure to inform them of any recent shoulder injuries or surgeries.
Treatment is dependent on early prevention. The quicker you get treatment, the better. Various techniques are available to restore your range-of-motion while decreasing your pain.
